In Defense of the Critic

Critics are not in opposition to the artist, they are concerned with creating a discussion with the artist. Would art be any different from craft without the critic? It is important to have individuals who are willing to analyze, discuss and promote the work of artists. The critic's role is not to stop us from enjoying things but to make us think about what it is we are enjoying.

I agree, as I write in my entry. I do not think that Diderot meant that as a serious comment.
